Vegan Naan

Vegan Naan

The most delicious Naan you will ever have! It takes a little bit of preparation, but in the end you will have wonderful Vegan Naan for everyone to enjoy.

Equipment:

  • Sifter
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet

Ingredients:

  • Baking powder: 1 Tsp
  • Egg substitute (beaten): 1
  • All purpose flour: 4 cups
  • Baking soda: 1/2 Tsp
  • Vegan yogurt, plain: 6 Tbsp
  • Non dairy milk: 1 cup
  • Vegan margarine: 3 Tbsp, divided
  • Poppy seeds: 1 Tbsp
  • Salt: To taste

Directions:

  • Sift the baking powder, flour, baking soda, and salt into the large mixing bowl. Add in the yogurt, egg replacer, and 2 Tbsp of the margarine, stirring well. Slowly stir in the milk until you have a soft dough. Cover the batter with a damp cloth and allow to sit in a warm area for 2 hours
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Farenheit. Take dough out of bowl and kneed for approx 2-3 minutes on a floured surface
  • Divide the dough into 8 pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Divide each ball into ovals that are about 6″ in length
  • Grease the baking sheet. Brush the bottom of the naan pieces with water and the top with vegan margarine, sprinkling with the poppy seeds
  • Allow to bake for between 6-10 minutes, or until golden brown and puffy

We like to use an ungreased baking stone for this recipe instead of a greased baking sheet as it really helps to get the naan nice and puffy!
